Remarks

• medium sized pectinid (60-90 mm) with only internal ribs (24-35) on both valves
• colour of the left (upper) valve is brown sometimes pink
• characteristic for this species are the dark radiating lines from the umbo on the left (upper) valve
• sometimes confused with Amusium balloti (Bernardi, 1861) but the number of internal ribs is different:
  

  	Amusium balloti between 37 and 50 internal ribs on each valve
  	Amusium pleuronectes between 24 and 35 internal ribs
