Remarks

Another South African species of the same genus is Pecten afribenedictus . The right (lower) valve of Pecten afribenedictus is however much more convex compared to Pecten sulcicostatus. The ribs on the right valve of P. afribenedictus are less defined, irregular and with a smooth surface. The left (upper) valve of Pecten sulcicostatus is almost flat compared to the concave left valve of Pecten afribenedictus.
