Remarks

• shells between 35 and 55mm in height
• colour usually light greybrown to orange brown.
• only found from the Sea of Japan
• some specimens have almost no ribs, normally about 14-18 square ribs
• hard to separate from Volachlamys tranquebaria (Gmelin, 1791) but the latter has more sharp ribs with a smaller interspace between the ribs
  Also closely related to Volachlamys singaporina (Sowerby II, 1842) from Australia and the southwestern Pacific but V. hirasei has less ribs (14-18) which are less defined compared to V. singaporina.
