Remarks

• shells between 30 and 50 mm in height
• colour variable from brown with white flecks to orange and red
• found from north east side of the Indian Ocean
• closely related to Volachlamys singaporina (Sowerby II, 1842) from the west side of the Pacific but the latter has more square ribs

• related to Volachlamys fultoni (Sowerby III, 1904) from South Africa but V. tranquebaria is usually bigger, more colourfull and ribs are sharper with a smaller interspace between the ribs compared to V. fultoni
